Collaborative Webinar Explores Pathways for Sustainable Packaging

Plastic packaging is widely used for its versatility and cost-effectiveness, but its single-use nature contributes to improper disposal and environmental pollution. Sustainable plastic management aims to reduce waste by minimizing use, improving recycling, and managing post-use waste effectively.

Henkel, along with The Plastics Institute, SCG Chemicals, and KURARAY, is hosting a seminar on "Plastic Packaging: Opportunities and Challenges for Sustainability" to enhance environmentally friendly packaging aligned with sustainable guidelines.

Dr. Waristha Saengrith from Henkel gave a presentation themed "The Path to Sustainable Packaging: Evolution from Concept to Product” and shared industrial insights about flexible packaging, as well as Henkel's commitment to sustainability. She also elaborated Henkel’s solutions developed in line with sustainability principles.

Key highlights of the technology include:

Lowering Carbon Emissions:

  • LOCTITE LIOFOL HS 1138, Heat seal coating for PET lidding with anti-fog properties, which replaces layers and enables new design and dematerialization by up to 50%.

Empowering Circularity and Recyclability:

  • LOCTITE LIOFOL LA 7102 RE / 6902 RE, a solvent-free adhesive for polyolefin pouches certified as fully compatible with PE recycling according to RecyClass testing protocols.
  • LOCTITE LIOFOL HS 2800-22 RE, a coating for a wide range of primary and secondary paper packaging items that heat seals to paper and itself.
  • LOCTITE LIOFOL BC 1582, Oxygen Barrier Coating With 1-component barrier coating for dry food that provides excellent oxygen barrier properties and compatible with PE recycling.

Enhancing Safety:

  • LOCTITE LIOFOL LA 2798, Solvent base lamination epoxy silane-free adhesives for retort packaging. Modular system for aromatic and aliphatic requirements
  • LOCTITE LIOFOL HS 1181, Mineral oil and chlorine-free universal heat seal coating with high seal strength.

In addition, The Plastics Institute, SCG Chemicals, and Kuraray provide valuable insights and case studies on plastic packaging, extending audience’s understanding and imagination in this filed. This collaborative effort fosters an enriching discussion for all participants.

The seminar attracted over 350 participants from various sectors and is highly recognized for its in-depth sharing and interactive engagement. It is of great significance that we strengthen collaboration with stakeholders to jointly shape a more sustainable future ahead.

As the leader in sustainability, Henkel Adhesive Technologies will further anchor sustainability in everything it does and spare no efforts in making impact for generations to come.
