LOCTITE® 620 High Temperature Retaining Compound

Features and Benefits

This anaerobic-curing retaining compound is designed for bonding cylindrical fitting parts, particularly where high strength with high temperature resistance is required.
When it comes to bonding locating pins in radiator assemblies, sleeves in pump housings and bearings in auto transmissions – especially when you need high temperature resistance up to 232°C (450°F) – LOCTITE® 620 is a good choice. This high strength, anaerobic-curing retaining compound is designed for bonding cylindrical fitting parts to prevent loosening and leakage due to shock and vibration. It cures when confined in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces, and can fill gaps from 0.15 mm - 0.25 mm (0.006" - 0.01").
  • Ideal for shafts, gears, pulleys and similar cylindrical parts
  • Operating temperature: -55°C to 230°C (-65°F to 450°F)

How to

Step by Step Guide

1. Preparation - Cleaning

Use LOCTITE® 790/7200 for easier removal of old retaining adhesive residue. It is recommended to use LOCTITE® 7063/7064/7070 to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying the adhesive. For gaps larger than 0.5mm or worn out shafts, bearing seats or keyways, use LOCTITE® metal-filled compounds or LOCTITE® 660 Retaining Compound.

2. Preparation - Activation

If cure speed is too slow due to passive metals or low temperature (below 5°C), use activator LOCTITE® 7240 or LOCTITE® 7649 (see cure speed vs activator graph in the TDS). Allow to dry.

3a. Application - For Slip-Fitted Assemblies

Apply adhesive around the leading edge of the male component and the inside of the female component and use a rotating motion during assembly to ensure good coverage. Wipe off excess adhesive.

3b. Application - For Press-Fitted Assemblies

Apply 360 degree beads of adhesive to both bond surfaces at the leading edges of insertion or engagement, and assemble at high press-on rates.  Wipe off excess adhesive.

3c. Application - For Shrink-Fitted Assemblies

Apply the adhesive onto the male component; heat the female component to cause expansion for free assembly.  Assemble components and allow temperatures to equilibrate. Wipe of excess adhesive.

4. Disassembly

Apply localized heat to approximately 500°F/260°C; disassemble while parts are hot. For corroded or seized parts, use LOCTITE® 8040 Freeze and Release.

Equipment

For manual assembly of adhesive the use of the LOCTITE® Pro Pump or LOCTITE® Peristaltic Hand Pump is recommended to ensure a consistent application volume. For semi-automatic or fully-automated dispensing options contact our technical service team for advice.
