LOCTITE® 603

Features and Benefits

A 1-part retaining compound designed for bonding cylindrical fitting parts such as bearings, bushings and shafts. Suitable for use where consistently clean surfaces can’t be assured, such as parts lightly coated with cutting fluids or rust-preventative oils.
If you can’t be sure the surfaces of your cylindrical fitting parts will always be clean, try LOCTITE® 603 high-strength retaining compound. It is capable of cutting through light coatings of oil on parts, such as cutting fluids and rust-preventative oils. Its low viscosity makes it ideal for augmenting press/interference fits, or slip-fitted assemblies with small clearances. The high-strength adhesive reliably prevents loosening and leakage due to shock and vibration on cylindrical parts such as roller bearings or oil-impregnated bushings into housings.
  • High-strength retaining compound for cylindrical assemblies
  • Perfect for bearings, bushings and shafts
  • Cures on lightly oiled surfaces

How to

Step by Step Guide

1. Preparation - Cleaning

Use LOCTITE® 7200 for easier removal of residues in case of old retaining adhesive. It is recommended to use LOCTITE® 7063 to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying the adhesive. For gaps larger than 0.5mm or worn out shafts, bearing seats or keyways, use LOCTITE® metal-filled compounds.

2. Preparation - Activation

If cure speed is too slow due to passive metals or low temperature (below 5°C), use activator LOCTITE® 7240 or LOCTITE® 7649 (see cure speed vs activator graph in the TDS).

3. Application - For Slip Fitted Assemblies

Apply adhesive around the leading edge of the male component and the inside of the female component and use a rotating motion during assembly to ensure good coverage.

4. Application - For Press Fitted Assemblies

Apply adhesive thoroughly to both bond surfaces and assemble at high press on rates.

5. Application - For Shrink Fitted Assemblies

Apply the adhesive onto the shaft; heat the collar to create enough clearance for free assembly.

6. Equipment

For manual assembly of adhesive, the use of a peristaltic hand pump is recommended to ensure a consistent application volume. For semi-automatic or fully-automated dispensing options, contact our technical service team for advice.

7. Disassembly

Apply localised heat to approximately 250°C; disassemble while hot. For corroded or seized parts, use LOCTITE® LB 8040 Freeze and Release.
