Superior impact resistance is particularly important within vehicle application areas more likely to be affected in a vehicle crash scenario – such as the front rail, shotgun, pillars and rocker.
Henkel’s TEROSON EP 5089 meets that need, using specially formulated nanotechnology for toughening and bonding to both aluminum and steel substrates for high performance when it matters most.
As a single-component, medium viscosity, solvent-free, weldable epoxy solution, manufacturing application is efficient and flexible, with excellent processability during e-coat processes due to high wash-off resistance.
The product can achieve full-properties in as little as 10 minutes when baked at temperatures as low as 155°C in the e-coat oven. Once cured, TEROSON EP 5089 exhibits strength and impact properties above typical industry requirements, including impact peel greater than 32 N/mm (CRS 1.0mm) and tensile strength greater than 30 MPa.
When used as part of an adhesive-bonded flange versus a spot-welded flange, TEROSON EP 5089 improves energy absorption, torsional rigidity and ride handling and reduces intrusion into the passenger compartment in the event of an accident.
