LOCTITE® 270 - Bottle 12.0/case

Features and Benefits

This high-strength threadlocker permanently secures and seals bolts, nuts and studs to prevent loosening due to shock and vibration. It’s perfect for all metals, including passive substrates, and is tolerant of light coatings of rust-preventative oils and minor contamination without needing to be cleaned.
When you need to permanently lock assemblies that must not come loose, LOCTITE® 270 is a great choice. This high-strength threadlocker has maximum efficacy in the securing and sealing of bolts, nuts and studs to prevent loosening due to shock and vibration. It works on all metals without the need for a surface activator or primer – including passive substrates like stainless steel, aluminium and plated surfaces – and can cure through light coatings of corrosion-prevention oils and cutting fluids without needing to clean the surfaces prior to application. The lock might be permanent, but it can still be disassembled: simply heat to 300°C and remove while still hot.
  • High strength
  • Prevents loosening on vibrating assemblies, e.g. pumps, gear boxes or presses
  • Proven to be tolerant of minor contamination due to industrial oils, e.g. engine oils, corrosion prevention oils and cutting fluids
  • Works on all metals, including passive substrates (e.g. stainless steel, aluminium, plated surfaces)
  • P1 NSF Reg. No.: 123006
  • Can be disassembled by heating to 300°C

How to

Step by Step Guide

1. Preparation - Cleaning

It is recommended to use LOCTITE® SF 7063/7064 to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying adhesive.

2. Preparation - Activation

If cure speed is too slow due to passive metals (stainless steel, aluminium and plated metals) or low temperature (below 5°C), use activator LOCTITE® SF 7240 or LOCTITE® SF 7649 (see cure speed vs activator graph in the TDS).

3. Application

Apply liquid threadlocker to the engagement area. For manual dispensing the use of a peristaltic handgun is recommended to ensure a consistent application volume.

4a. Application - Through Hole

Insert bolt and apply threadlocker to the exposed thread. Assemble nut and tighten to the correct/specified torque.

4b. Application - Blind Hole

Apply into lower third of blind hole.

5. Assembly

Assemble and tighten. If several bolts are being assembled, torque them down to the correct value within the fixture.

6. Disassembly - Hand Tools

Disassemble with standard hand tools.

7a. Disassembly - Heat

If disassembly is not possible using normal hand tools, apply localised heat to approximately 250°C. Disassemble while hot.

7b. Disassembly After Heating - Hand Tools

Disassemble while hot with standard hand tools.

Hint

For the disassembly of corroded or seized parts, use LOCTITE® LB 8040 Freeze and Release.
