LOCTITE® 222

Features and Benefits

Low-strength threadlocker for the locking and sealing of small fasteners under 6.35 mm (1/4") in diameter. Prevents loosening from shock and vibration, removable with hand tools.
If you’re working with small diameter screws made of low strength metals (e.g., aluminum or brass), try LOCTITE® 222. It is ideal for low-strength threadlocking of adjustment screws, countersunk head screws, and set screws; on collars, pulleys, tool holders and controllers. It works on most metals without primer, including passive substrates such as stainless steel, aluminum and plated surfaces. It also cures through light coatings of corrosion prevention oils without having to clean the parts.
  • Ideal for low-strength threadlocking of adjustment screws, countersunk head screws and set screws
  • Prevents fastener loosening on vibrating assemblies, e.g. pumps, gear boxes, presses
  • Ideal for small thread sizes up to 6.35 mm (1/4")
  • Can be disassembled with ordinary hand tools for easy service & maintenance
  • NSF P1 Reg. No. 123001

How to

Step by Step Guide

1. Preparation - Cleaning

It is recommended to use LOCTITE® SF 7063/7064/7070 to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying adhesive.

2. Preparation - Activation

If cure speed is too slow due to passive metals (stainless steel, aluminum and plated metals) or low temperature (below 5°C), use activator LOCTITE® SF 7240 or LOCTITE® SF 7649 (see cure speed vs activator graph in the TDS).

3. Application

Apply liquid threadlocker to the engagement area. For manual dispensing the use of a peristaltic handgun is recommended to ensure a consistent application volume.

4. Application - Through Hole

Insert bolt and apply threadlocker to the exposed thread. Assemble nut and tighten to the correct/specified torque.

5. Application - Blind Hole

Apply into lower third of blind hole.

6. Assembly

Assemble and tighten. If several bolts are being assembled, torque them down to the correct value within the fixture.

7. Disassembly

Disassemble with standard hand tools.

Hint

For the disassembly of corroded or seized parts use LOCTITE® LB 8040 Freeze and Release.
